What is the NFPA?

The National Fire Protection Association (NFPA) is a global, non-profit organization that develops and publishes consensus codes and standards to prevent death, injury, and property loss from fire, electrical, and related hazards, acting as a key authority on safety, providing education, and influencing building codes worldwide. Their widely recognized standards, like the National Electrical Code (NFPA 70) and Life Safety Code (NFPA 101), guide construction, installation, and emergency planning, ensuring standardized safety practices for businesses, governments, and communities.

AHJ primarily stands for Authority Having Jurisdiction, a key term in safety, construction, and engineering, referring to the organization (like a city building dept, fire marshal, or electrical inspector) that enforces codes, standards, and regulations to ensure safety in buildings and installations, but it can also refer to the Alliance for Housing Justice or the Australian Health Journal depending on context. In safety contexts, they are the gatekeepers for approving designs, materials, and installations, ensuring compliance with rules like the NEC or NFPA codes.

The NFPA requires annual inspections to be performed by an outside licensed contractor. However ; the monthly inspection can be maintained in house with the proper documentation.

While each application differs greatly a general rule is 10# ABC every 75 feet in any direction at a minimum.
